A Careful Process From Preparation to Completion
A considered, traditional approach to hand-painted kitchen refurbishment, with careful preparation, suitable materials and attention to each stage of the work.
Initial Assessment & Planning
Every project begins with a careful assessment of the existing kitchen. We take time to understand the construction, condition and character of the cabinetry, as well as what you would like to achieve from the refurbishment.
Existing coatings, timber type, MDF, laminate surfaces, previous repairs and everyday wear can all influence the preparation and paint system required.
Protection & Preparation
Before painting begins, floors, worktops and surrounding areas are carefully protected. Doors, drawer fronts and fittings are removed where appropriate so they can be worked on separately.
Planning the workspace properly helps keep the home organised and allows the fixed cabinetry and removable components to be prepared methodically.
Surface Preparation
Proper preparation is fundamental to a lasting finish. Surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and degreased, sanded to provide the appropriate key, and repaired or filled where required.
Suitable specialist primers are then used according to the existing surface and coating. The precise preparation varies from kitchen to kitchen rather than following a single system regardless of condition.
Hand Painting & Finishing
Specialist furniture paints are applied by hand using brushes and techniques suited to the cabinetry and the finish required.
Each coat is given appropriate drying time before the next stage. Working methodically allows greater control over the finish and helps create the refined appearance associated with a traditionally hand-painted kitchen.
Reassembly & Final Checks
Once the painting stages are complete, doors, drawer fronts, handles and fittings are carefully reassembled.
Final checks are carried out to make sure doors and drawers operate correctly, fittings are properly positioned and the completed finish meets the standard expected before the kitchen is handed back.
Why We Don’t Rush the Process
A durable kitchen finish depends on far more than applying the final coats of paint. Cleaning, sanding, repairs, suitable primers and appropriate drying times all contribute to how well the finished surface performs.
Taking the time to assess and prepare each kitchen individually is one of the most important parts of producing a finish intended to withstand normal everyday family use.
