Many common questions are covered in our Q&A video with Paul. If you would like to see the process itself, you can also watch our kitchen painting video.

Can oak kitchens be painted?

Yes. We specialise in hand painting and refurbishing oak kitchens throughout Northamptonshire and surrounding counties. Oak kitchens require careful preparation because previously lacquered timber surfaces need specialist adhesion primers and thorough sanding before painting. When prepared correctly, an existing oak kitchen can be transformed into a durable hand-painted finish at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

How durable is a hand-painted kitchen?

When prepared and painted correctly using specialist furniture paints, a hand-painted kitchen can remain in excellent condition for many years under normal domestic use. Durability depends heavily on preparation, suitable primers, curing times and careful application — which is why we follow a traditional, methodical process rather than rushing the work.

Do you spray paint kitchens?

No. We specialise in traditional hand-painted kitchen finishes rather than spray painting. Our approach is particularly suited to bespoke kitchens, detailed joinery and period-style cabinetry where a carefully applied hand-painted finish is more appropriate to the character of the kitchen.

Do I need to empty my cupboards?

Not everything needs to be taken out. We will advise you on what to remove depending on your kitchen layout and the scope of work. In many cases, only selected areas need clearing to allow safe access and protection.

Will I be without a working kitchen?

No — you will be able to use your kitchen throughout the whole process. There will be periods of reduced access while certain stages are completed, but we plan the work carefully to keep disruption to a minimum.

Can you paint laminate or vinyl kitchen doors?

Yes. Laminate and vinyl-style kitchen doors can often be painted successfully using the correct preparation system and specialist adhesion primers. The condition and construction of the doors must first be assessed carefully, as some surfaces require additional preparation to ensure a durable and reliable finish.

Can you paint previously painted kitchens?

Yes. Previously painted kitchens are very common. We assess the existing finish and carry out the appropriate preparation before repainting, so the new finish bonds correctly and performs as intended.

Can you refit my existing handles, or supply new ones?

Yes — we can refit your existing handles and hinges, or supply and fit new hardware where required. We can also advise on handle styles and finishes that suit the design and colour of your kitchen.

What is the typical timescale?

Most projects take between one and two weeks, depending on the size of the kitchen and the amount of preparation required. We will confirm timescales once the kitchen has been assessed.

When can I start cleaning the new finish?

During the first seven days, treat surfaces gently while the finish continues to harden. After that, you can clean using mild products you already have at home — avoiding abrasives and harsh chemicals. Full guidance is available on our Care & Aftercare page.

Can chips or marks be repaired later?

The paint should not chip under normal domestic use when prepared and applied correctly. Marks can usually be touched up if ever needed, and we are always happy to advise on the best way to keep the finish looking its best.
