Chalon Bespoke Hand Painted Kitchen

Church Brampton,  Northamptonshire,  This was a real labour of love, When first installed by Chalon around 15 years ago it had been Hand painted with chalk paint and waxed over the top.

This was the original Chalk paint Waxed applied over the chalk paint

A couple of years ago the clients decided that they would like to update the furniture with a colour change and commissioned a painter to carry out the work, Unfortunately the painter did not carry out the work to a good standard, In fact it was probably the worst Hand Painting I have ever seen carried out on a Bespoke kitchen in over 30 years of working on kitchens.

The paint was scratching off all over even just if you caught it with your finger nails, UNBELIEVABLE BUT TRUE. This video shows how the paint was scratching off so easily because of no preparation.

The complete Kitchen required stripping of the failed paint finish, Quite a process but had to be carried out to produce a showroom finish that will not scratch off. Guaranteed to last for many years.

After I carried out a full site survey I quickly realized that this project needed major attention in fact we had to strip off every bit of paint the previous painter had applied,  They had carried out no preparation at all and painted straight over the waxed chalk paint with waterborne eggshell, not even a coat of primer, After we stripped the failed coatings we completely sanded  back and removed all the wax and cleaned down with a degreaser,  We then applied our first coat of Tikkurila Otex adhesion primer which is also a great stain blocker.

The internal sides of the doors where kept to there original Chalon finish, We cleaned the paint off the edges and restrained and applied 2 coats of furniture Lacquer.

The next step was to make good where required and Apply a 2nd coat of the Otex primer , After sanding down with very fine paper 1000 grade and removing all the dust by vacuuming and tack clothes it was time to Apply the top coats on this kitchen the clients wanted a semi matt finish so we recommend Tikkurila Helmi 10 a lovely semi matt durable finish ideal for kitchens, The main wall and base cabinets where finished in Pavilion Grey and the feature island in Stiffkey Blue both very popular Farrow and Ball colours that we have colour matched in Tikkurila eqvilent matches.

The completed kitchen turned out really well as you can see from these photos, And the clients where delighted as you can read from there review,  A major refurbishment that took around 3 weeks to complete but brought this kitchen back to its original showroom finish.

On this kitchen we also refurbished the oak worktop to the island sanded completely back to clean wood we then applied 2 coats of Osmo worktop finishing oil in a satin finish, The doors and drawers all required easing when we stripped out the kitchen at the start of the project, We also fitted new chrome handles to complete the refurbishment  nice up to date knobs on the doors and cup handles to the drawers.

Mr & Mrs Deane, Chuch Brampton, Northants

We couldn’t be happier with our newly refurbished Chalon Bespoke kitchen.  Both Paul’s did a great job-a pleasure to have them in our house with us. We would recommend them without any doubt.

Thank you
